Product Description
Queen Gimnax has ordered the reclamation of the northern lands. As a cartographer in her service, you must map this territory and claim for the Kingdom of Nalos those lands which the Queen prizes most.
But you're not alone in this wilderness... The Dragul contest your claims with their outposts. You must work cleverly to reduce their influence, claim the most land for the Queen, and prove yourself to be the best cartographer in the kingdom!
The game is played throughout four seasons. Each player gets a map sheet and a pencil for drawing their map. At the start of each turn, an Explore card is flipped over to reveal a land shape and a land type for each player to draw on their map.
Draw wisely... If you surround a mountain, you score more points. If you meet the challenges declared in the Queen's edicts, you score more points. And if you fully surround any Dragul outposts, you avoid losing points.

"Cartographers may just edge out 'That's Pretty Clever!' as our favorite roll-and-write game (flip-and-write being the card-based variation on the dice-based original). Both games have great underlying gameplay but Cartographers is the more contemporary game - marrying theme and great artwork with the underlying gameplay mechanics. Players sketch geographic features onto a gridded playsheet using a pencil, attempting to achieve scoring objectives in doing so. No artistic skill is required yet this action of sketching, inherent to the gameplay, is an accessible and fun way to introduce new players to the strategy game genre. Also interesting to observe is the way that Cartographers builds variation into the game through its method of rotating round-scoring objectives. While the backstory is a little esoteric it doesn't detract from the fun. Every burgeoning game library needs a good roll and write to round out the collection, and Cartographers is a great place to start."
